The Organizations

The Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTDNA) is the world's largest professional organization exclusively serving the electronic news profession, consisting of more than 3,000 news directors, news associates, educators and students. Founded as a grassroots organization in 1946, the association is dedicated to setting standards for newsgathering and reporting.

The Radio-Television News Directors Association of the Carolinas (RTNDAC) Awards are for Region 8, Large Market (Region 8 includes North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia and Kentucky).

The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ)'s Green Eyeshade Awards are "In recognition of outstanding journalism among professional journalists in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia".

Public Radio News Directors Incorporated (PRNDI) is a national, non-profit professional association that exists to improve local news and information programming by serving public radio journalists.

The Gabriel Awards are given by The Catholic Academy for Communication Arts Professionals is the U.S. affiliate of SIGNIS, the international Vatican-approved organization for communication. This group is a network for broadcasters, communication directors, independent producers, syndicators, public relations, internet and other media professionals. This group recognizes outstanding artistic achievement in a television or radio program or series which entertains and enriches with a true vision of humanity and a true vision of life.

88.5 WFDD, the NPR® news and Triad Arts station broadcasting from Wake Forest University, is the only public radio station of its kind located in the Piedmont Triad. It broadcasts news, information, and public affairs programming covering the arts, people, and institutions in the area from both its Winston-Salem and Greensboro studios.

The state's charter NPR® member, 88.5 WFDD is the longest continuously broadcasting public radio station in North Carolina. It is a member of the North Carolina Public Radio Association.
