Senate Republicans are skeptical of Gov. Pat McCrory's economic incentives request, and they have offered their own proposals.  Their incentives still rely on targeted awards but they also reduce the corporate income tax rate even further.

Chamber leader Phil Berger of Eden announced Wednesday a legislative package he says will help North Carolina attract new jobs but also will aid companies already in the state.

One measure would give the Job Development Investment Grant program $5 million more through the end of June compared to $15 million through 2015 in a House bill approved two weeks ago. A second bill also requires more grants to go to companies outside the Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham area.

Proposed legislation would also change the corporate tax formula to reward manufacturers selling products in other states.
