Three people were killed in a plane crash in an east Forsyth County quarry on Monday. The plane was a Beechcraft A36 traveling from Sarasota, Florida to the Piedmont.

Peter Knudson, with the National Transportation Safety Board, said the pilot was disoriented and was talking with air traffic controllers at PTI when he crashed. According to the Winston-Salem Journal, Knudson stated that the pilot could not locate the airport.

The Vulcan Materials quarry is just off U.S. 311 on N.C. 66. The initial investigation should take three days, but the full investigation won't be completed for nearly a year.
