A Winston-Salem man is accusing the Boy Scouts of discrimination. A trial alleging racial discrimination and harassment opened yesterday.

Jean Dominique filed the lawsuit in 2013 against the national Boys Scouts of America and its local chapter, the Old Hickory Council. Scout executive Steve Wilburn is also named in the suit.

Dominique, who is black, was fired as a district scout executive in 2011.

The suit alleges that he's suffered emotional distress and developed health problems as a result of his firing.

The Winston-Salem Journal reports Dominique is seeking at least $60,000 in actual and punitive damages.

His lawyer claims that the local chapter of the Boys Scouts has had a racist history in Forsyth County.

Attorneys for the Boy Scouts say that Dominique was fired because of poor job performance.

The trial is expected to last up to three weeks.
