Greensboro Councilman Stepping Down  

Greensboro City Council Zack Metheny announced he will be stepping down at the June 16 meeting. Metheny has been interviewed to become the next President and CEO of Downtown Greensboro Inc. 


Greensboro Council Changes Move Forward

Controversial changes that would reduce the size of the Greensboro Council moved forward Wednesday. But the way it happened was a surprise. Sen. Trudy Wade had introduced the bill earlier this year which had recently stalled. Now the measure is tucked into a different bill altogether, one that would make similar changes to the Randolph County town of Trinity.

 

Two Guilford County Schools Closed Today

Guilford County Schools officials have decided to close Gateway Education Center and Bessemer Elementary School on Thursday after the water supply to both tested positive for E.Coli. The schools are expected to reopen by Friday.

NCDOT Testing Online License Renewal

North Carolina is testing a system that will allow online renewal every other time drivers  renew their license. 
The state Division of Motor Vehicles will also begin issuing a more secure and durable type of driver license this summer.
 

New Greensboro Facility For Victims Of Domestic Abuse

A new Greensboro facility will offer victims of family violence a single portal for comprehensive assistance.

The Guilford County Family Justice Center opens its doors on Monday. Its goal is to eliminate the difficulty people can face when accessing services. The facility brings community partners together in one building to ease the process for clients.

SoConn Hoops Tourney To Remain In Asheville Through 2021

 
Asheville and the Southern Conference basketball championships are staying together into the next decade. The two sides announced a four-year extension to an agreement to continue playing the tournaments at U.S. Cellular Center through 2021. The existing deal was set to expire in 2017.
