Demonstrators in the Capital Building won't have to come up with as much money to get out of jail. A North Carolina judge has eased their bond conditions.
Twenty demonstrators are facing trespassing and fire code violations from protesting Republican policies at the General Assembly.
Many media outlets reported that the Wake County judge allowed each demonstrator to remain free on unsecured bond and set their next court appearance for Aug. 28. Defense attorney Geeta Kapur said some had posted $500 bonds based on prior protest arrests.
The demonstrators were arrested April 29 and charged after refusing to stop chants disrupting sessions of the House and Senate.
The protesters want expanded Medicaid coverage, increased public education spending, and rolled-back abortion restrictions.
