Bethany Chafin

Bethany joined the staff of WFDD in the fall of 2012.  She received her B.A. and M.A. in English Literature from Wake Forest University and focused on Anglo-Irish writing.  Between undergraduate studies and graduate school, Bethany served as the intern to Talk of the Nation at NPR in DC, participating in live NPR Election Night Coverage, Presidential debate broadcasts, regular Talk of the Nation shows, and helping to plan the inaugural broadcast of ‘Talk of the World.’  She enjoys engaging her interests in books, politics, and art in the interdisciplinary world of public radio.  Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Bethany enjoys calling the Piedmont home.

In 1974 John F. Blair, founder of John F. Blair, Publisher, gave a speech. He addressed the ever-relevant concerns of the book publishing industry. He recognized that it was in danger of becoming "uniform, mechanized, controlled." Nevertheless, he said, "I believe that the best days of independent publishing are still to come".

Thinking Big, Building Small: Filmmakers Document a Movement by Taking Tiny House on the Road

Filmmakers Alexis Stephens and Christian Parsons are the individuals behind Tiny House Expedition. They're encouraging community members to Think BIG, Build Small. In 2015, the couple will embark on a documentary adventure, taking their newly built tiny house, a vehicle, and cameras to document the tiny house movement across the country. They'll be visiting tiny house villages for the homeless and communities using tiny houses for neighborhood revitalization.
