Mary Heisey

Intern

Mary is a senior at Guilford College, majoring in English and Sociology & Anthropology. She is currently the News & Production Manager and a DJ at WQFS 90.9 FM in Greensboro, where you can hear her voice every day on public service and community announcements. She is also the host of Greensboro ON, a hyper-local social justice program highlighting stories from the community. Subjects range from immigration, homelessness, and LGBTQ issues, and the program has been reviewed by Triad City Beat. The big dream is to become a radio producer for the PRX and NPR program Snap Judgment.

When she's not working, you can find her attempting to learn Spanish and Tagalog, making to do lists, and searching for a job.

James Shields is the Director of the Bonner Center for Community Service and Learning at Guilford College. He's also an actor and an expert on the history of the Underground Railroad in Greensboro. Radio Camper Ethan Campbell-Brown learned more about James Shields and his work.

I met James Shields on the patio of Founders Hall at Guilford College. He was very nice and had a voice perfect for a radio interview. We talked about the concept of slavery and his work. We also talked about Pathways to Freedom, a play he's currently acting in.
