Charlotte's fire investigators say arson is the cause of a blaze at a predominantly black Baptist church. They haven't yet said what caused Wednesday's early morning church fire.

A statement from the fire department said it took 14 fire engines and about an hour to get the fire at Briar Creek Road Baptist Church under control. Two firefighters were treated for heat-related injuries.

Investigators aren't sure if the fire was racially motivated.

The hundred member church, which dates back to the 1980s, sustained excessive damage to its education building. The rest of the property, including the sanctuary and gymnasium, has smoke damage. A senior fire investigator said the total damage is more than $250,000.
