Guilford County Schools Closed Monday Because of Ongoing Power Outages
GCS Schools Closed Tomorrow, March 10
Guilford County School Officials Released the Following Press Release:
Greensboro, N.C. – Guilford County Schools is closing all schools tomorrow, Monday, March 10, due to ongoing power outages, HVAC issues and downed power lines and trees that are still impacting some neighborhoods and bus routes.
Ten-month employees at schools following the 2013-14 Traditional Academic Calendar should not report to work tomorrow and should plan on taking a vacation day. The make-up day will be Thursday, April 17.
Principals should report to their schools to assess their buildings and help coordinate response efforts, if needed. Central offices will open on a normal schedule.
As of this evening, at least 18 schools are still without power, while others have downed tree limbs and other debris that needs to be removed. One school only has partial power, while another school's boiler stopped working.
This has been an unusually severe winter, and we appreciate everyone's patience and support as we work through these issues to ensure student and staff safety. Maintenance staff have been working around the clock and coordinating efforts with Duke Power throughout the weekend, and we greatly appreciate their efforts and dedication.
