Kids Find Human Skull in Residential Greensboro Neighborhood
Greensboro Police are searching for more skeletal remains after a human skull was found in a residential wooded area.
The discovery happened just before 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon in the 1500 block of Fairfax Road near the Random Woods community. Police say two children were playing in the area when they found the remains.
“Based upon the fact that the remains were left in a residential area we are treating this as if it were a homicide, although there are no obvious signs of foul play on the skeletal remains,” says Susan Danielsen, Public Information Officer for the Greensboro Police Department.
Authorities say no clothes or identification was found on the skeletal remains, making it difficult to identify the person.
“We have not been able to determine the gender or race of that person yet, however we do believe that the remains are that of an adult. Currently, we have police and crime scene investigators out there and they are methodically searching the area for any evidence or any other remains that may be in the area. We are not sure how long the remains have been there,” says Danielsen.
Once forensic investigators have gathered as many remains as they can find, police say they will send them to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh for further analysis. Danielsen says investigators are hoping that information will give them some leads as to who the person may be.
“How this investigation proceeds depends on the type of information we get back from the State Medical Examiner’s Office. If we can determine the gender, the race and the approximate age of the person, we can help us make a match to any missing person’s report that may have been filed.”
In the meantime, the Greensboro Police Department is asking the public for help in positively identifying the human remains. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000
