Quique Rodriguez-Pastor is a local singer-songwriter who grew up in both Peru and the U.S . Quique also makes short bite sized videos. Lots of people describe his music as international, pop,and experimental, with sounds that remind them of the beach. He spoke with Radio Camper Dinah Taylor.

Quique approached me on a blue bike wearing a red t-shirt and brown cargo pants with a huge smile on his face. We sat down and I asked him about his passion for music.

My passion, you know, that's something that I don't really think that I do anything to get that passion. It's just something that I was born with - that's how it feels like anyway. I do know that there are certain things that I experience in my day to day life that inspire or that fuel that passion, and it's simple things like being out in nature, hearing other musicians be creative. Things like that inspire me to continue being passionate about music.

For many people songwriting can take a long time and can be very hard. I then asked Quique what his songwriting process was.

Usually I start with the music first. In fact, just about every song - I'd say 99% of the music that I write - I start with the melodies and the chord progressions and the rhythms, all those things first. Usually, lyrics tend to be the last things that I do. Now, not all the songs that I compose have lyrics. A lot of times, the music that I compose is just instrumental. As far as the process, it's never the same. It's not like I have a formula. It's not like I say, okay, I'm gonna write a song, so I'm gonna do like I always do it. It's always different.
