Cold, windy conditions, along with an expected 2 to 3 inches of snow have forced the closure of the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro Tuesday.

Zoo spokesman Rod Hackney says that with the arctic cold expected later in the day, and the accompanying wind-chills, "zoo officials are concerned with both visitors and staff."

Zoo employees are asked to follow the zoo's adverse weather policy.  A decision on Wednesday's operations will be made this afternoon.
