Retired Army Sergeant First Class Robert Reister says there is no military training that prepares a person for war's emotional battlefield. In 1968, Retired Army Sergeant First Class Reister went to Vietnam. He served for a year in the First Signal Corps with the 97th Signal Battalion in Da Nang. He was stationed about 25 miles south of the demilitarized zone. He also was a courier to other sites and traveled with armed escorts. After 20 years of service, he retired from active duty in 1988. Now he and his wife, Ana, live in Winston-Salem.
