Republican TV Ad Praises McCrory And Tillis For Education Laws
A Republican-focused policy group is spending over a million dollars to tout their own lawmakers for turning education bills into law. Teacher pay-raises and high tech classrooms are the main points made by these ads.
A group promoting policies implemented by North Carolina Republicans is running a television ad before most public schools open to praise Gov. Pat McCrory and House Speaker Thom Tillis for their education legislation.
Carolina Rising says the commercial, running in all major TV markets for two weeks starting Friday, highlights large salary increases for teachers and more funds for high-tech learning. The group says the $1.5 million ad campaign will help parents know their children's future is improving because of this legislation.
The television ad shows McCrory and Tillis and names them specifically. Tillis is running for U.S. Senate in November against incumbent Democrat Kay Hagan. Last week, Hagan held a press conference in Greensboro attacking Tillis' record on education spending.
Not mentioned in the commercial is Republican Senate leader Phil Berger, who also proposed teacher pay raises. He was identified in a news release from Carolina Rising unveiling the ad.
