Police say a standoff with a man at the  Traveler's Inn motel on University Parkway has ended.

Fox 8 reports the standoff that lasted nearly 29 hours ended on Tuesday afternoon when the suspect surrendered to police nearly two hours after he released a hostage.

According to the report, Christopher Shane Jenkins surrendered to police without incident at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, two hours after a 16-year-old hostage walked out of the motel room. Officers escorted 16-year-old Andrew Menjivar alongside the front of the motel and across a parking lot toward University Parkway, where the hostage was put into a patrol car and driven away.

No injuries have been reported.  Winston-Salem Police Chief Barry Rountree said one handgun was found inside the room.

Several local businesses were closed during the incident. Shortly after the standoff began, police evacuated the Krispy Kreme, Shell Gas Station and a nearby Mexican restaurant, as well as a few other businesses.

According to Fox 8, King Police Chief Paula May said Jenkins has outstanding warrants for three counts of aggravated sexual assault in Virginia. She also said that Jenkins has an outstanding order for arrest in Forsyth County, and is also facing charges of making harassing phone calls and assault on a female in Forsyth County.
