University of NC School of the Arts' Winter Dance is  Thursday, February 21-24 with evening performances at 7:30pm and a Sunday matinee at 2. One of the performances will be D-Man in the Waters by McArthur Genius Grant recipient Bill T. Jones.  David's first guest today is Catherine Cabeen and Company artistic director Catherine Cabeen. She’s a former Bill T. Jones/Arne Zane Dance Company performer and when not leading her own company she’s a Visiting Lecturer at Middlebury College in Vermont and a teaching artist for Bill T. Jones. She’s bringing her wealth of experience to UNCSA coaching the young dancers there through the incredibly demanding D-Man choreography and helping navigate both High School and college students through the competitive world of dance.

On February 23 at 7:30pm the Salem Choir will be joined by Sonja Sepulveda’s Palmetto Voices in a performance featuring African Folk music, Spirituals and Gospel. It’s a marriage between African and European choral styles of Bach with music by Aaron Copland and Ralph Vaughan Williams as well. The performance will be held in Hanes Auditorium on the Salem College campus in Winston-Salem. On March 12 the choirs head to Dallas, Texas to what’s been called the “Olympics of Choir” where they’ll be featured in the National American Choral Directors Association Concert.

When violist Sheila Browne first joined flutist Debra Reuter-Pivetta, and harpistJacquelyn Bartlett in performance as a trio, there was a chemistry there that neither Jacqui nor Debi had experienced before.  The result: Fire Pink Trio.

A year later Fire Pink is one of the Triad’s hottest new chamber ensembles, and you can hear them in concert on Tuesday, February 19 as part The UNC School of the Arts’s Music at Watson series. The concert in Watson Hall on the UNCSA campus begins at 7:30pm. On the program next Tuesday will be music by Beethoven, Camille Saint-Saens, Sofia Gubaidulina and 20th century Brazilian composer Hector Villa Lobos.

In addition to their performance on the 19th, Fire Pink Trio will be at North Carolina State on Valentine's Day.  You can find Fire Pink Trio's complete performance schedulehere.  Last week Jacqui, Debi and Sheila dropped by the WFDD studios to chat about their upcoming performance, and they played Live in Studio A.
