The Winston-Salem Police Department is urging people to stay off the roads Monday night into early Tuesday morning.

"Due to the continued heavy icing conditions, multiple wrecks have been experienced in the area of Business 40 east and west bound especially near Baptist Hospital (Hawthorne curve), both directions of Highway 52 from University Parkway south to Bypass Interstate 40," says Lieutenant Rick Newnum, with the Winston-Salem Police Department.

"Several intersections are without power and without traffic signals. Duke Power has been notified and is en route."

-MOST BRIDGES IN WINSTON-SALEM AND FORSYTH COUNTY ARE ICED OVER.


-MOST OF BUSINESS 40 AND A GOOD PART OF HIGHWAY 52 ARE CLOSED DUE TO
THE CONDITIONS.  NCDOT salt trucks are enroute.

-Motorists are urged to exercise caution if they feel it necessary to drive in the current weather conditions, especially when approaching intersections without functioning traffic signals.

-Several accidents & ice covered bridges are also being reported in Guilford County.
