Winston-Salem Songwriters Session Offers Insight on Local Talent
Songwriter sessions are typically a chance to be a fly on the wall as musicians perform their original songs and then share their thoughts, feelings, and opinions on the craft of songwriting.
This Saturday night, May 11, those four walls will be the Community Arts Café. Winston-Salem Songwriter Sessions kicks off at 8:00 pm with performances by local artists Tyler Nail, Jonathan Loos, Quique Rodriguez-Pastor, and Andrew Lazare. David Ford will be emceeing the event and after each song he will ask a question or two of the artists and then audience members can chime in too with questions or comments of their own. Tyler and Jonathan spoke with David in studio A where they later performed their original songs. We're sampling from that recording session today, and you can hear the complete session this Friday afternoon at 1:00 pm during Triad Arts Weekend.
Tyler Nail is a Winston-Salem native. He is a songwriter, singer, guitarist and drummer in several performing acts in town, and fronts his original project, simply titled Tyler Nail. Tyler plays with a lot of musicians from the Triad area, most commonly including Johnathan Loos, Quique Rodriguez-Pastor, Kasey Horton, Sam Kossler and Marshall Bjorling. Tyler has independently released 4 albums, one of which, entitled Winter to Winter, can be found on iTunes. Tyler plays clubs and bars in the area often, including the Garage of Winston-Salem, and the green Bean of Greensboro. Tyler also fronts the Americana cover band, The Bulls Hitters, who perform at Bulls Tavern every Thursday night at 9:30 pm.
Johnathan Loos was raised in Advance NC for the majority of his childhood. Johnathan is a guitarist, singer and songwriter. Johnathan is a solo artist, as well as the lead guitarist and supporting singer in Tyler Nail's band. John is currently recording his first full-length album, set to release this year. John is also a member of the Bulls Hitters, and performs every Thursday at Bulls Tavern in Winston-Salem.
