88.5 WFDD's Spring Pledge Drive Is Outstanding Success
Raises Over $269,000 in Contributions, a 43% Increase So Far
 
WINSTON-SALEM, NC (April 7, 2006) – 88.5 WFDD, the National Public Radio affiliate serving the Winston-Salem- Greensboro- High Point market has raised over $269,000 so far during a spring campaign consisting of an on-air pledge drive, renewal mailings and member challenges. This outstanding drive represents a 43% increase over last year’s spring campaign of $188,000.

The station, licensed to Wake Forest University, relies on $600,000 in annual membership contributions from throughout the Triad and Piedmont to help fund high quality local program production, program purchases and broadcasting expenses.

The pledge drive has generated over 2,290 individual pledges so far. 88.5 WFDD station manager Jay Banks said it was especially rewarding to note that over 1440 people called and pledged during the on air pledge part of the drive.

Volunteers from groups including Second Harvest Foodbank, WS Convention and Visitors Bureau, Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership, DADA, Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, Targacept, Krispy Kreme, Reynolda House, Piedmont Opera, Forsyth Storytelling Guild, Wachovia, Audubon Society, King’s English, Bell, Davis and Pitt, UNCG Concert and Lecture Series, AARF, The Winston-Salem Symphony, Jamestown Pipes and Drums, Flex Pay, Downtown Middle School, Data Max Corporation, John F. Blair Publisher all answered hundreds of phone calls from supporters.

88.5 WFDD, licensed to Wake Forest University, covers the Piedmont Triad region from studios in Winston-Salem and Greensboro, NC, and broadcasts from a transmitter located near Lexington, NC. 88.5 WFDD is the only Triad -based NPR News and arts radio station. It provides local news updates and in-depth reports from staff based in the Triad, as well as news reports from the BBC, the Associated Press, and from member stations of the North Carolina Public Radio Association. The station airs several locally-produced programs such as Voices and Viewpoints, a weekly half-hour interview program and Triad Arts Upclose, and Jazz Place with Jim Steele. The station has won more than 27 awards for news reporting since 2003. The station broadcasts classical and jazz music as well.
