88.5 WFDD to Broadcast A Conversation with Richard Leakey

Winston-Salem, NC—88.5 WFDD, the Piedmont Triad’s public radio station, will broadcast A Conversation with Richard Leakey on Sunday, April 29, at 7:00pm. Leakey, the world’s best-known paleoanthropologist and the son of the famous Drs. Louis B. and Mary Leakey, spoke at Guilford College’s Dana Auditorium on Tuesday, April 17 to an audience of 650 people. WFDD’s news director and associate general manager Denise Franklin hosted the event.

Leakey has been credited with some of the most significant fossil discoveries of the 20th century. He is a global thinker, influential environmentalist, and the author of over 100 articles and books, including Origins, The Sixth Extinction, and his memoir, Wildlife Wars: My Fight to Save Africa’s National Treasures, an account of his time spent as head of Kenya’s wildlife service. During the event at Guilford, he spoke of that time, and his battles with poachers over the lives of elephants; the necessity of keeping humans and animals in Africa separate; and climate change in Africa. He graciously answered some questions from the audience.

Piedmont Triad residents who missed the event can hear the conversation with Dr. Richard Leakey, moderated by Denise Franklin, by tuning in to 88.5 WFDD at 7:00pm on Sunday, April 29.

88.5 WFDD, the NPR® news and Triad Arts station broadcasting from Wake Forest University, is the only public radio station of its kind located in the Piedmont Triad.
