Winston-Salem, NC—Triad Arts Up Close with Bradley George,
the Piedmont Triad’s only radio program focused entirely on
the local arts scene, has hit the 300 mark. 88.5 WFDD will broadcast
the 300th show on Tuesday, May 1, 2007. Since taking over the show
a little over two years ago, George has featured over 200 local
and regional artists and arts organizations, encompassing theatre,
music, dance, film, and visual arts.
The program has featured artists and organizations from areas around
the Piedmont Triad like Winston-Salem, Greensboro, High Point, Boone,
Salisbury, and Martinsville and Danville, VA. Noted guests include
musician Jeffrey Dean Foster; musician Martha Bassett; filmmaker
Matt Hodges; Robert Moody, conductor of the Winston-Salem Symphony;
Dmitry Sitkovetsky, conductor of the Greensboro Symphony; dancer
and choreographer Karola Lüttringhaus, creator of Alban Elved
Dance Company; Susan McCullough, Dean of the Dance Department at
North Carolina School of the Arts; painter Betty Watson; and artists
performing at Eastern Music Festival.
Triad Arts Up Close can be heard Monday through Thursday at 8:50am
and 1:50pm. A compilation of the week’s broadcasts, Triad
Arts Weekend, airs each Saturday at 1:00pm. Archived versions and
podcasts of the program can be found at the station’s website,
www.wfdd.org. Online streaming is also available at the website.
88.5 WFDD, the NPR® news and Triad Arts station broadcasting
from Wake Forest University, is the only public radio station of
its kind located in the Piedmont Triad. It broadcasts news, information,
and public affairs programming covering the arts, people, and institutions
in the area from both its Winston-Salem and Greensboro studios.
The state’s charter NPR® member, 88.5 WFDD is the longest
continuously broadcasting public radio station in North Carolina.
