Winston-Salem, NC-88.5 WFDD, the Piedmont Triad's public radio station, is offering a new public relations and marketing internship track. The station previously offered three internships in the areas of journalism, operations and production, and marketing and fundraising. Due to increased marketing efforts, the station has decided to split the marketing and fundraising internship into two separate tracks, one in development and one in public relations and marketing. With these four internship specializations, the station hopes to give a good representation of the primary responsibilities of running a university-licensed public radio station.

As a non-profit, public service radio station, 88.5 WFDD is responsible for raising the bulk of its operating budget through business sponsorships, also called underwriting, and individual contributions. The development internship will focus entirely on the fundraising aspects of the station, working with both the membership and underwriting departments, and getting a good overview of both nonprofit fundraising techniques as well as sales practices.

The new public relations and marketing internship will work directly with the station's membership and marketing coordinator on the station's extensive marketing efforts, which include media communication, print advertising, and special events and sponsorships. The internship is part-time, 15 - 20 hours per week, with some evening and weekend work required. Duties will include assisting with writing and disseminating press releases; assisting with design of print advertisements; updating promotional materials; drafting sponsorship proposals; and helping plan, promote, and staff special events.

WFDD is seeking a candidate with an interest in the public sector and an educational background in media studies, nonprofit management, or other related area. 88.5 WFDD, the NPR® news and Triad Arts station broadcasting from Wake Forest University, is the only public radio station of its kind located in the Piedmont Triad. It broadcasts news, information, and public affairs programming covering the arts, people, and institutions in the area from both its Winston-Salem and Greensboro studios.
