Winston-Salem, NC—Wait, Wait . . . Don't Tell Me!®,
National Public Radio®’s oddly informative news quiz,
played to a sold out crowd Thursday night at Wake Forest University’s
Wait Chapel. 88.5 WFDD, the Piedmont Triad’s public radio
station, hosted the popular public radio program and sold around
2,000 tickets to the event. The program will be broadcast on 88.5
WFDD this Saturday, September 15, at 11:00am.
Thursday night’s taping included panelists Roy Blount, Jr.,
humorist and author; Mo Rocca (from TV’s The Daily Show with
Jon Stewart); and Houston Chronicle deputy managing editor Kyrie
O’Connor. Each week, host Peter Sagal and official judge and
scorekeeper Carl Kasell lead the panelists, callers, and guests
in what might be characterized as the news Olympics. Contests include
answering questions about the week's events, identifying impersonations,
filling in the blanks at lightning speed, sniffing out fake news
items, and deciphering limericks. Listeners vie for a chance to
win the most coveted prize in radio: having Carl Kasell record the
outgoing message on their home answering machine.
Each show includes a special guest for the segment entitled “Not
My Job.” Thursday’s guest was Wake Forest University
alum and Winston-Salem native Chris Paul, who now plays for the
New Orleans Hornets.
Wait, Wait . . . Don't Tell Me!® is heard on approximately
425 NPR® member stations nationwide by 2.3 million listeners
weekly. It airs locally on 88.5 WFDD each Saturday morning at 11:00.
88.5 WFDD, the NPR® news and Triad Arts station broadcasting
from Wake Forest University, is the only public radio station of
its kind located in the Piedmont Triad. It broadcasts news, information,
and public affairs programming covering the arts, people, and institutions
in the area from both its Winston-Salem and Greensboro studios.
The state’s charter NPR® member, 88.5 WFDD is the longest
continuously broadcasting public radio station in North Carolina.
It is a member of the North Carolina Public Radio Association.
