88.5 WFDD’s Fall Campaign Raises 40 Percent of its Annual Membership Goal of $646,000

Winston-Salem, NC-88.5 WFDD, the National Public Radio® affiliate which is licensed to Wake Forest University and serves the Winston-Salem-Greensboro-High Point area, has raised $259,350 toward its annual membership goal. The station's on air campaign generated $159,218 of that amount. WFDD's goal for fiscal year 2008, which ends on June 30th, 2008, is $646,000.

WFDD's recent fall on-air drive began on October 10th and ended on Friday, October 19th. Membership contributions consist primarily of donations received in response to the on-air broadcasts and the station's direct mail campaigns. The contributions from listeners comprise approximately half of the station's overall operating budget.

Denise Franklin, WFDD's General Manager said, "WFDD is committed to producing and broadcasting high quality, relevant programming to the Piedmont Triad. It is extremely rewarding and affirming when listeners demonstrate their support for this public service through their contributions."

Franklin added, "When listeners contribute to WFDD, they are investing in the future of a community-based media outlet which has recently expanded its public service. The entire staff is very appreciative."

WFDD recently announced its conversion to digital technology and the launch of WFDD-1, a duplicate of its current news and information programming and WFDD-2 which broadcasts classical music.

More than one hundred volunteers, vendors, restaurants, and arts and community organizations supported the drive. The attached sheet enumerates the participating organizations and companies.

88.5 WFDD covers the Piedmont Triad region from studios in Winston-Salem and Greensboro, NC, and broadcasts from a transmitter located near Lexington, NC.

88.5 WFDD is the only NPR® News and Arts station in the Triad. The station provides local news updates and in-depth reports from staff based in the Triad, as well as news reports from NPR®, the BBC, the Associated Press and from member stations of the North Carolina Public Radio Association. The station airs several locally-produced programs such as Voices and Viewpoints, Real People-Real Stories and a six-day a week interview program, Triad Arts Up Close.
