Winston-Salem, NC—88.5 WFDD has received fourteen awards for excellence in radio journalism for reports produced in 2007. WFDD’s news department was honored most recently by The Radio Television News Directors Association of the Carolinas. First place awards went to Jeff Tiberii in the Sports Special category for his sports commentary Farewell to SportsCenter; Kathryn Mobley in the Education category for Win-Win Resolution; LeShea Agnew in the Feature category for Students Explore Their Brains and in the Series category for A Ride with a Forsyth County Animal Control Officer (part one of two); Bradley George in the Politics-General category for Hillary Clinton and Maya Angelou in Winston-Salem; Jeff Tiberii and Bradley George in the Spot News category for Live Report: WFU Coach Dies; and to the entire WFDD News Team in the Political-Election category for primary night coverage. LeShea Agnew also took a second place award in the Political-Election category for her story In Line with Clinton Supporters.
Additionally, the North Carolina Associated Press awarded first place in the Spot News category to Jeff Tiberii and Bradley George for Live Report: WFU Coach Dies; in the Best Feature category, Kathryn Mobley took first place for Win-Win Resolution and Bradley George received an honorable mention for The Projectionist.
The Society of Professional Journalists Green Eyeshade Awards recognize outstanding journalism among professional journalists in eleven states in the Southeast. Jeff Tiberii received awards in the Sports Commentary category: a first place award for NFL Pensions and a second place award for Skip Prosser Remembered. In addition, both Tiberii and Bradley George won a second place award in the Breaking News-Radio category for Live Report: WFU Coach Dies.
WFDD’s general manager, Denise Franklin expressed her support and enthusiasm for the hard work of WFDD’s award winning reporters. “This has been a good year for WFDD’s news department. The need for excellent local reporting continues to be a core part of public radio stations like WFDD. 88.5 WFDD, the NPR ® News and Triad Arts Station broadcasting from Wake Forest University, is the only public radio station of its kind located in the Piedmont Triad. It broadcasts news, information, and public affairs programming covering the arts, people, and institutions in the area from both its Winston-Salem and Greensboro studios. The state’s charter NPR ® member, 88.5 WFDD is the longest continuously broadcasting public radio station in North Carolina. It is a member of the North Carolina Public Radio Association. .
