88.5 WFDD Exceeds Goal; Raises $23,748 during its December Campaign

In an effort to acknowledge the current economic climate, WFDD worked with The Law Offices of Timothy D. Welborn to issue a challenge to its listeners. Unlike standard public radio pledge drives, the station did not offer coffee mugs or tote bags as thank you items to donors. Instead, Timothy Welborn agreed to make a donation of $3,000 to The Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina when WFDD hit its goal of $20,000. With the Food Bank’s buying power, that gift will allow it to distribute $36,000 worth of food.

Denise Franklin, general manager of WFDD, said, “In these challenging economic times, when the need in our community is greater than ever, this kind of partnership seemed most appropriate. The campaign allowed our listeners to simultaneously invest in two community organizations. It was a powerful alliance. The staff at WFDD was honored to participate and looks forward to future efforts that will serve people in the Piedmont Triad effectively and tangibly.”

Timothy Welborn will present his check to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina at a ceremony on Tuesday, December 30 th at 10:00am. Representatives from all three organizations will be present.

88.5 WFDD, the NPR ® News and Triad Arts Station broadcasting from Wake Forest University, is the only public radio station of its kind located in the Piedmont Triad. It broadcasts news, information, and public affairs programming covering the arts, people, and institutions in the area from both its Winston-Salem and Greensboro studios.
