88.5 WFDD Raises $42,000 in One-day On Air Campaign
|
Winston-Salem, NC—88.5 WFDD, the public radio station licensed to Wake Forest University, raised $42,000 in one day of on-air fundraising on Wednesday, June 17th. The station, which serves 32 counties in northwest North Carolina and southern Virginia, held the fundraiser to make up for a $42,000 shortfall from its spring on air pledge drive.
WFDD’s 2009 Spring Pledge Drive ended on Friday, May 15th, with 79% of goal. The station put a plan into motion to raise the additional funds needed in order to end its fiscal year financially sound, culminating in the one-day campaign. WFDD’s fiscal year runs from July 1st through June 30th. Membership relations representatives say that with donations still coming in, the station is poised to end fiscal year 2009 ahead of 2008.
WFDD’s General Manager, Denise Franklin, stated that, "It is truly rewarding to receive such a strong outpouring of support during these challenging economic times. During our one-day pledge drive our listeners demonstrated their commitment to public radio and the public service it provides by helping us raise the additional $42,000 we needed to sustain the local and national news, discussion, and entertainment programming they rely on."
Franklin continued, “While the economy is still recovering, this last demonstration of listener support has positioned WFDD for a strong performance in fiscal year 2010.”
WFDD typically receives additional pledges of support in the days immediately following station campaigns. Membership contributions, excluding major gifts and vehicle donations, comprise 42% of WFDD's operating budget.
88.5 WFDD, the NPR ® News and Triad Arts Station broadcasting from Wake Forest University, is the only public radio station of its kind located in the Piedmont Triad. It broadcasts news, information, and public affairs programming covering the arts, people, and institutions in the area from both its Winston-Salem and Greensboro studios.
