Radio Camp

Radio Camp is a week-long, summer enrichment day camp for middle school students interested in technology, journalism, and the exciting world of radio!

Over the week, students learn the basics of audio recording in the studio and "in the field;" how to conduct an interview; how to edit sound on computers into a news story; and the other skills needed to write, record, edit, and create stories for radio broadcast.

Writing her Future: Jennifer Fernandez of News & Record

After years of working as journalists, most newspaper editors are pleased with having finally arrived at their high ranking position within the organization. They’re often responsible for virtually all aspects of the news operation, including the content of the paper, hiring, and budgets.

However, one editor in the Piedmont Triad doesn’t necessarily share these feelings of self-satisfaction. She recently spoke with WFDD Radio Camper Hadley Copeland.

Russian WFDD Radio Camper Interviews Lumbee Tribe American Indian

North Carolina’s Native American history and culture is rich, from the mountains to the coast. One of the tribes that has contributed the most to our heritage is the Lumbee Tribe. This week, WFDD Radio Camper Dasha Panchuk got to learn more about the Lumbee Tribe from StarDancer.

Dasha is from Russia and speaks limited English. She completed Radio Camp (and her interview) with help from fellow campers and a translator app on her smartphone. Her narration is provided here by Radio Camp program assitant Pam Clough.

Comic books continue to be popular across the country. Comic-con in San Diego, presents conventions and events celebrating the ongoing contribution of comics to art and culture. The number of new summer block busters based on comic book characters is growing each year, and that enthusiasm for comics is alive and well here in the Triad.

Radio camper Nikki Brooks recently met with Greensboro’s Stephen Mayers. He’s the comic writer and manager of Acme comics.
