Pianist Pamela Howland and Artist Wendell Myers Celebrate Chopin's Birthday

Pamela Howland is a pianist, her husband Wendell Myers is a painter. This week they’ll combine artistic forces to celebrate Chopin Birthday Festival from Warsaw to Winston-Salem, bringing the year’s old tradition from Chopin’s homeland to the Triad. On Friday it’s Night Music Part 2, a unique concert with Pam playing selections from her new CD of  Frederick Chopin’s Nocturnes 11 through 19, and a painting exhibition of Wendell’s 8 nocturne-inspired works.

Paper Lantern Presents "Gruesome Playground Injuries"

What do you get when you cross an accident-prone daredevil and a corrosive masochist? Gruesome Playground Injuries. The play by Rajiv Joseph with “as much humor as horror” according to Variety magazine covers the 30 year long relationship between Doug and Kayleen from an elementary school nurse’s office to the funeral home.

Carolina Film and Video Festival Kicks Off This Week

The 2014 Carolina Film and Video Festival, which is the state's longest running film festival,  kicks off this Wednesday, Februrary 26th on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. This four day event features plenty of films of the live action and animated variety, and provides attendees with the opportunity for some one-on-one time with visiting & local filmmakers. Eddie Garcia's guests today are Austin Taylor, the director of the stop motion animated film “Death and The Robot” and Carolina Film and Video Festival Director Keith Barber.

For the past 40 years The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra has been creating internationally renowned music and forcing us to rethink musical collaboration. The musicians perform without a conductor, rehearse and organize democratically, and along the way they’ve made more than 70 albums noted by critics for having unparalleled energy. Orpheus frequently collaborates with some of today’s leading soloists and this week’s concert as part of the Secrest Performance Series at Wake Forest University is no exception.
