Singer/Songwriter Sarah Siskind to Perform at Reynolda House, Video and Pics

A couple of years ago, after leaving her mark in Nashville, Tennessee, Winston-Salem native singer/songwriter Sarah Siskind relocated to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. That year she wrote all the songs on her EP In the Mountains, sang several support dates for Bonnie Raitt, and Time Magazine called her “one of our favorite 5 voices” at SXSW in Austin, Texas. Sarah’s songs are heavily featured on ABC’s hit TV show Nashville.

Triad Arts: Remembering Poet, Actress, Activist Maya Angelou

On Wednesday, May 28th world-renowned author, poet, actress and activist Dr. Maya Angelou died at the age of 86. She was a national treasure inspiring millions around the world, and here in the Triad. Since 1982 Dr. Angelou served as Reynolds Professor of American Studies at Wake Forest University where she impacted countless students, faculty, and staff. In January of 2010 she delivered the keynote address at a campus ceremony honoring the legacy of her friend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Second Spring Arts Gears Up for 2014 Festival

Second Spring Arts is gearing up for its May festival. Their 2014 competition for artists ages 60 and above with showcase original works encompassing virtually all media including photography, quilts, sculpture, ceramics, stained glass and more. This year Second Spring Arts is adding a Literary Contest and Anthology as well. Second Spring Arts makes arts of all types accessible for seniors and highlights the connection between the arts and the health and wellbeing of older individuals. They also promote research along those lines.

Music for a Sunday Evening in the Park Celebrates 35th Year

Live music by some of the Triad’s best bands in a beautiful outdoor setting. That’s MUSEP: Music for a Sunday Evening in the Park. This wonderful Greensboro tradition is free and open to the public. This year MUSEP is celebrating its 35th anniversary by adding new bands to the performance lineup and Gate City venues as well. MUSEP begins in June and will run through the end of August. Greensboro City Arts Director Jennifer Hance provides this summer season preview through July 4th.
