University of NC School of the Arts' Winter Dance is  Thursday, February 21-24 with evening performances at 7:30pm and a Sunday matinee at 2. One of the performances will be D-Man in the Waters by McArthur Genius Grant recipient Bill T. Jones.  David's first guest today is Catherine Cabeen and Company artistic director Catherine Cabeen.

The saxophone was invented by Adolph Sax in the mid-1800s and since then the soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones have played huge roles in wind ensembles, military bands, and in jazz concert halls. The sax has also become the instrument of choice for dozens of contemporary composers including John Adams, Arvo Parte, and David Rakowski.

Imagine being able to develop a unique performance from the ground up with the mentorship of an internationally acclaimed performance artist. That’s exactly what a group of 17 Wake Forest University students will enjoy over a three-week residency with Tim Miller and their production of VOX. The student ensemble work is based on their own personal stories, experiences, and memories.
