Dr. David Carroll is a physicist and the director of the Center for Nanotechnology and Molecular Materials at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem. He's also an international expert in nanotechnology, the art of manipulating very tiny materials to produce big results. Dr. Carroll uses the smallest part of materials to develop a range of advanced items including an internal body pressure measuring tool, a cloth that absorbs body heat to charge a cell phone and specialized circuits for NASA that repair themselves when hit by energetic particles. He also travels internationally, collaborating with others in nanotechnology, and he holds 12 patents.

The state's charter NPR® member, 88.5 WFDD is the longest continuously broadcasting public radio station in North Carolina. It is a member of the North Carolina Public Radio Association.
