A childhood fascination with radio charted a course for Robert Kirk in audio, visuals, and the arts. Recently off tour with Grammy award-winning Alison Krauss, Kirk confesses to wearing more than one hat. “High school and college years were as much about the radio stations as they were about the classrooms” he says. After Chapel Hill and being chief announcer at WUNC, Kirk moved to Rome, Italy and on to New York pursuing fashion photography. Years later, after working for Pete Townshend as tour photographer Robert acknowledges “my love for music and audio production again jumped in the front seat”. In the past seven years after moving back to Winston-Salem he has been heard on WQFS, Guilford College, produced Radio Relish in association with the Winston-Salem Journal, and recorded countless CDs of area musicians.
Robert currently operates Treehouse Mobile Studio, creating custom CD transfers and installing audio & visual systems for businesses and individuals - as well as shooting photography and video with North Carolina ad agencies and magazines. “I guess it’s fair to say my commercial work is the ‘big hat’ but the kid in me still loves being on air”.
