Denise Franklin is the General Manager of 88.5 WFDD where, in her words, she has "the privilege of guiding a staff of talented employees who are dedicated to the mission of public radio in the Piedmont Triad." She is also the host of Voices and Viewpoints, a distinctive interview program featuring Piedmont area residents whose work or actions have put them on the national or international stage. Denise's journalism career began more than twenty years ago in Wichita, Kansas. She earned her B.A. in Radio-TV-Film from Wichita State University and, in 2006, her MBA from the Babcock School of Management at Wake Forest University. She has worked as a broadcast journalist in Wichita, Kansas; Kansas City; and here in the Triad. She is an active member of her community by addressing dozens of organizations as a keynote speaker or moderator. Additionally, her service includes: Board of Trustees member for the University of North Carolina School of the Arts; Board Member for the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce; Board Member for the New Winston Museum; member of Reynolda Rotary; founder of and contributor to the Denise Franklin Scholarship Fund for college bound high school seniors administered through the Winston-Salem Foundation.
Denise has won several awards for her investigative reporting. In addition, she has taught broadcast journalism courses at Wake Forest and Winston-Salem State Universities. She is a member of the executive committee for Eastern Region Public Media – an association of more than sixty public radio station dedicated to advancing public media by increasing the effectiveness, cooperation and significance of its members in their communities. Denise also serves on the Board of Directors for the University Station Alliance, an organizational resource for university owned public radio stations.
