North Carolina lawmakers are returning to Raleigh to keep tabs on how state government is operating. The legislature's oversight committee for the Department of Health and Human Services scheduled a meeting that was expected to last much of today.
This year's General Assembly session ended less than three weeks ago, but the oversight committee is already back at work. The News and Record reports that the committee's agenda for today includes reports about outside Medicaid contracts, the future of the Dorothea Dix mental hospital property and Medicaid's financial picture.
Department officials say the state's Medicaid shortfall was significantly smaller during the year ending June 30 compared to previous years, but lawmakers are still worried about the agency's long-term health.
DHHS Secretary Dr. Aldona Wos is also expected to address the committee of House and Senate members.
