Welcome to 88.5 WFDD's presentation of StoryCorps: Door to Door, a collaborative project with Old Salem.

For two weeks - beginning February 18, 2008 - we'll bring you a collection of audio essays by residents across the Piedmont, each sharing personal experiences from days past. During these two weeks, you can hear WFDD's StoryCorps on the air at 8:33 a.m. and 4:32 p.m. each weekday.

These stories were originally told and recorded at Old Salem in Fall 2007.

In this collection of audio essays, residents across the Piedmont share personal experiences from days past. These stories were originally told and recorded at Old Salem, last fall. Today, 87-year-old Margaret Vardell Sandresky concludes this group of Piedmont essays. She takes us 70 years back in time to an intimate Old Salem community, where families enjoyed band music in the courtyard after dinner, ladies wore white gloves in public and no one locked their doors. Her husband, 92-year-old Clemens, interviews her. Margaret and Clemens live in Winston-Salem. Old Salem Museums and Gardens brought StoryCorps Door-To-Door to Winston-Salem last October. Today, 52-year old Ronda Plummer re-traces her very personal winding path that led her from the north ultimately to Winston-Salem and into professional and personal success. Her eldest son, 25-year-old Justin, interviews her. Ronda Plummer lives in Winston-Salem with her husband David and their sons two younger sons, Eric (15) and Ross (17).Old Salem Museums and Gardens brought Door-To-Door to Winston-Salem last October. Today--Evva bakes up a delicious story about a lucrative family tradition. Her husband, Travis, also 76, leads the interview. They live in Clemmons.
