NC Directly Affected by Supreme Ct. Ruling on Voting Rights Act

The U.S. Supreme Court decision striking down part of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 will have a direct effect in North Carolina.

North Carolina is among the states affected directly by the Supreme Court's decision to strike down part of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.  The provision struck down Tuesday was based on African American voter registration and discriminatory voting practices such as literacy tests.      John Dinan, professor of politics at Wake Forest University, says 40 of the state's 100 counties are currently covered under the voting rights act.
