"Sounds of the Summer: Exploring the Tones and Colors of Organs" in Winston-Salem began June 9th, with a recital on the 1971 Charles W. McManis Organ at the Gemeinhaus in Historic Bethabara Park, by organist Timothy Olsen.
Internationally acclaimed American conductor Leonard Slatkin currently serves as the Music Director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra as well as music Director of the Orchestre National de Lyon in France. He has led many of the world's leading orchestras, and of his over 100 recordings, 7 have won Grammy's and 64 have received nominations.
Today's guest has been praised for his "assertive style and strong musical personality," and playing that is "supremely convincing in its vitality". Kevin Lawrence is the chair of the string department and professor of violin at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
