The Arts Council and Power2Give Fund Local Creative Projects

Power2Give is an online fundraising platform used by the Arts Council of Winston-Salem to help support a variety of different programs offered by The Council’s 19 member organizations. It’s a fundraising vehicle that’s similar to Kickstarter in which the organization has up to 60 days to raise funds. This year, the Milton Rhodes Innovative Project Grant will provide some matching dollars to help each group meet their goals.

Eastern Music Festival Presents Lynn Harrell

The 53rd annual Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro continues this weekend with a concert on Saturday night featuring world renowned cello soloist Lynn Harrell.  On the program will be Benjamin Britten’s Variations and Fugue on a theme of Purcell, and Ernst Bloch’s Schelomo; Hebraic Rhapsody for cello and orchestra. In addition to offering amazing concerts for all audiences, EMF is also one of the most highly sought after summer programs for talented student musicians to study.

Meet the Artist: Writer and Producer Mike Reiss

The Triad Jewish Film Festival in Greensboro builds bridges of understanding by showcasing Jewish identity through dynamic, contrasting films, community outreach, and comedy. Last year The Simpsons writer/producer and 4-time Emmy Award winner Mike Reiss presented “Jews in Toons: An Animated Evening” at Temple Emanuel. It was a hilarious evening featuring rare clips and inside stories from one of the longest running shows in TV history.

Casa Azul Presents Caribbean Night

Casa Azul, under the proud fiscal sponsorship of Arts Greensboro, was begun in 2011 by a group of Latino professionals in the Greensboro area who saw the need to share the best parts of their respective cultures and to promote Latino arts throughout the entire Triad community. Casa Azul board member Addy Jeffrey is not an artist, but her family arrived here from Cuba, and she’s heavily engaged in the Latino community, and excited to share Caribbean Night with Triad audiences.

Meet the Artist: Dancer, Yoga Instructor, Mime Jacob Felder

Jacob Felder is a man of many, many talents. He’s a professional dancer, yoga and meditation instructor, circus style acrobatic balancing artist, AND a professional mime. Jacob began mesmerizing audiences as a traditional mime back in 1993.

For the past 12 years his repertoire has expanded to include robotic, living statues and a stilt walking fringe clowns as well. You can catch Jacob the living statue this fall during Raffaldini Vineyard’s Fiesta the third Saturday in September.
