High-tech Workers Are Target of Triad's Talent War

High-tech workers are enjoying a war for talent in the Triad.

  In practices reminiscent of the late-'90's dot-com bubble, high-tech workers are being poached by competing employers. Sign-on and referral bonuses, other financial and intangible incentives are once again in use in the aerospace, logistics and computer technology support industries. In this week's Business Report, a discussion about some Triad companies and employees who are benefiting from this talent war.

Old Salem Receives $1.25 Million Toward Capital Campaign

The town of Salem was founded in 1766 by the Moravians, a Protestant group of people that began in what is now known as the Czech Republic. Today, Old Salem Museums & Gardens is one of this country’s most comprehensive historic attractions, sharing the experiences of those who lived and worked in the early South.

 

In May of 2013, Old Salem launched a $17.6 million dollar capital campaign to sustain its ability to continue educating visitors about Salem’s history, and its impact on Winston-Salem.

The Little Free Library Movement Comes to Winston-Salem

Sarah Maxey has big plans for bringing the Little Free Library movement to North Carolina (and beyond).
At the end of last month, Winston-Salem resident Sarah Maxey asked for $175 through Kickstarter, a digital funding platform for creative projects, in order to start a Little Free Library. These libraries are freestanding structures placed, well, anywhere: a local Y, a park, greenway, neighborhood, coffee shop, and stocked with special books that are free to the public.  The hope is that those who take, will eventually return either the same book, or another meaningful one.
