National Black Theatre Festival Announces 2013 Schedule

Performers from the NBTF show, Crowns, entertain during the NBTF press conference, Monday, June 3. It is one of more than 100 performances coming to Winston-Salem July 29-August 3.

What's That Taste in Forsyth Co. Water?

NW Forsyth Co. water should be tasting better over the next few days.

Many northwest Forsyth Co. residents have noticed a change in the taste of their water.  Bill Brewer, water treatment superintendent for the City-County Utilities Division, says the change is most noticeable for those living north of I-40 and west of U-S 52.

"The problem is caused by algae in the raw water that we treat," Brewer says. "These algeaes produce compounds that produce musty and earthy tastes and orders. People that are sensitive to them are very, very sensitive to them." Brewer stresses that it's not harmful.

"March Against Monsanto" events planned in Triad


Activists in Winston-Salem and Greensboro plan to join the March Against Monsanto, a worldwide day of protest on Saturday drawing attention to the issue of genetically modified crops.  

The effort, fueled by social media, was started earlier this year by a Utah woman after the defeat of a California ballot measure that would have required the labeling of all genetically modified organisms, GMOs.

Triad Pharmacist Says Generic Drugs Could Cost Less

One Triad pharmacist says generic drugs could be even less expensive.

Buying generic drugs instead of brand name is one way most people save money on health care costs. According to the Generic Pharmaceutical Association, from 2002-2011--generic drug sales in the United States have created a savings of $1.07 trillion. But one independent pharmacist argues people are still spending too much.
