Underwriting & Public Radio
What is Public Radio?
Public radio is not-for-profit and exists to serve its audience and its community. Public radio exists to inform, enlighten and engage.
"[Our] support of the station's news and financial reporting has resulted in immediate and positive response." -Caren Rodriguez, Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Davenport, Marvin, Joyce & Co, LLP (with public radio host Bob Edwards in Greensboro)
Revenue generated by public radio stations through individuals, corporations and foundations is put directly back into creating a stronger service for listeners. This revenue funds the development of new programs and in some cases, the expansion of local news services, as well as vital operating expenses for public radio stations.
Commercial radio stations are more and more owned by a handful of mega media corporations. Public radio is local. It is locally owned and operated—programming decisions are made by people who live in the community each station serves.
Through objective, credible, intelligent and accurate news and information programs of unparalleled quality, public radio challenges assumptions, provides listeners with what they need to function as informed citizens, and encourages them to use their minds.
