Bookmarks' Movable Feast

Discover your next book club pick at the 3rd annual Bookmarks' Movable Feast, coming on Sunday, January 25th, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and featuring more than 20 authors from across the United States. This event is being held at Wake Forest Biotech Place, 675 Patterson Avenue, in the Innovation Quarter in downtown Winston-Salem. will help you discover your next book club pick.

Confirmed authors to date are: Kate Alcott, The Daring Ladies of Lowell; Kim Church, Byrd; Joshua Max Feldman, The Book of Jonah; Lucy Ferriss,  A Sister to Honor; E. C. “Redge” Hanes, Billy Bowater; Nadia Hashimi, The Pearl That Broke Its Shell; Artis Henderson, Unremarried Widow; Darin Kennedy, The Mussorgsky Riddle; Krysten Kusek Lewis, Save Me; Jennifer McMahon, The Winter People; Mary Miley, Silent Murders; Christopher Scotton, The Secret Wisdom of the Earth; Aaron Their, The Ghost Apple; Timothy Wilson, Redirect; and Sonja Yoerg, House Broken. 

Every table will hear from 10 authors for 10 minutes each. Opportunities for informal discussion with all the authors will begin at 2 p.m. and will also follow the Movable Feast at 5 p.m., along with book sales and booksignings. Refreshments will be provided by Black Mountain Chocolate, Cabot Creamery, and Salem Baking Company. Wines by Raffaldini Vineyards will be available by the glass or bottle.

The Nutcracker, Presented by the University of North Carolina School of the Arts

December 12th through 21st at the Stevens Center, experience Tchaikovsky's lush score, vivid sets and costumes, and the extraordinary performances that have made UNCSA's The Nutcracker a holiday tradition.

The immensely popular Tchaikovsky Nutcracker ballet music will be performed by the UNCSA Nutcracker Orchestra under the direction of Christopher James Lees, music director of the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra and associate professor of conducting. Lees has conducted performances with the Detroit, Toledo, and Portland (Maine) Symphonies, as well as with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Orchestra de Chambre de Paris, Cabrillo Festival Orchestra, and at the Festival Internacional de Inverno de Campos do Jordao in Brazil. 
 
Jared Redick, assistant dean of the UNCSA School of Dance, will serve as artistic supervisor for The Nutcracker. Redick studied at UNCSA, Mikhail Baryshnikov’s School of Classical Ballet and the School of American Ballet. Redick began his performance career with San Francisco Ballet and danced with Texas Ballet Theater, Miami City Ballet and The Suzanne Farrell Ballet, before joining Boston Ballet, where he danced for seven years as a soloist.
 
The Nutcracker is a collaborative effort of three UNCSA schools. Proceeds benefit the scholarship programs of the schools of Dance, Design & Production, and Music. For more information including performance times and ticket prices, click here.

Greensboro Farmers Curb Market

The Greensboro Farmers Curb Market, 501 Yanceyville Street, will operate 8:00 am to 1:00 pm every Wednesday, including holidays, through December 31st. The Mid-Week Market will be held each Wednesday including the day before Thanksgiving on November 26, Christmas Eve on December 24th, and New Year’s Eve on December 31st for shoppers' convenience.

The market is popular for seasonal vegetables, fresh turkey order pick up, flower arrangements, freshly prepared deli items, last minute hostess gifts, and desert items which can also be special ordered in advance.
