 2014 RiverRun International Film Festival

88.5 WFDD is proud to sponsor the 16th annual RiverRun International Film Festival, taking place in downtown Winston-Salem April 4th through the 13th. The Festival will feature 143 films from 33 countries in 10 days.

The RiverRun International Film Festival is a regional event based in Winston-Salem, NC, and is one of the premier film festivals in the southeastern United States. Founded in 1998, RiverRun was inspired by the French Broad River near Brevard, North Carolina, where the festival was originally held. Increasingly, RiverRun has been able to present high-profile, critically-acclaimed films and offers screenings of yet-to-be released films, opportunities to interact with artists, and immersion into the art and business of the independent film world.

RiverRun is a non-profit cultural organization dedicated to the role of cinema as a conduit of powerful ideas and diverse viewpoints. Its mission is to foster a greater appreciation of cinema and a deeper understanding of the many people, cultures, and perspectives of our world through regular interaction with great films and filmmakers. In addition to the Festival’s annual line-up of films, RiverRun also presents a broad range of special events, celebrity tributes, family programs, panel discussions, and parties.

2014 Piedmont Earth Day Fair

On Saturday, April 26th, please join us for the 9th annual Piedmont Earth Day Fair, at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds. From 10am to 5pm, check out live music from artists including After Jack, Doug Davis and the Solid Citizens, and doby; interactive environmental exhibits; food; and more. Be sure to check out the 88.5 WFDD and SciWorks tents for fun activities and live tapings of SciWorks Radio!

The mission of the Piedmont Environmental Alliance is “to inspire people to make choices that protect and restore the environment.”

In 2005, a small group of friends joined together to create a family friendly event to celebrate Earth Day. Shortly after the first Fair, the organizing committee formed Piedmont Environmental Alliance, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the Piedmont Triad community on environmental issues.
Since then, PEA has become the leading regional source of information and inspiration on environmental sustainability.

PEA supports local environmental groups and green businesses by promoting their work, products, and services, and facilitating networking opportunities. PEA is a catalyst for change by working with community leaders to identify issues of common concern and by educating the public on these issues. By bringing together local citizens, nonprofit organizations, businesses, schools and governments, PEA has created an alliance that works together toward the common commitment of building an environmentally sustainable community.
