Jon Hall, WFDD News

The Winston-Salem Urban League has a delicious, hidden treasure. Downtown on Fifth Street, this treat is nestled between two buildings and concealed by a white wooden fence.
It is a thriving garden.
Adults in the agency's Senior Program and youth from around the community are planting, pruning, weeding and watering vegetable and fruit plants. And they've got a bumper crop in Better Boy tomatoes, okra and green and banana peppers.

Hear from volunteers who are nurturing this community garden as they describe its impact on their lives.

Caron Myers, WFDD News
Thursday, Sept. 10th at 7:30am & 5:30 pm

The Greensboro Children's Museum is the first of its kind in the nation to create an edible schoolyard. This garden teaches youngsters how planted vegetable and fruit seeds ultimately turn into the fresh produce we eat.

The Greensboro Children's Museum is located at 220 North Church Street in downtown Greensboro. The official ground breaking ceremony is September 24 at 4 p.m. and it's open to the public.

Hear what prompted the museum to embrace this project and what this group had to do to earn the blessing of one nationally renowned chef before breaking ground.
