Collins is a Distinguished Professor at Lehman College of the City University of New York and has more than dozen books which are collections of his writings.
He was the Poet Laureate of the United States from 2001 until 2003.
He recently spoke with WFDD's Jeff Tiberii about his work, beginning first by sharing his mind-set when he writes. Click on the "listen" button to hear more.
He will be reading his poetry Saturday at 10am on the Triad St. Main Stage. A question and answer with the audience and booksigning will follow the reading.
The annual Bookmarks event is a combination of readings, demonstrations, workshops and booksignings.
Bookmarks begins Saturday at 10am and runs until 5pm in the Downtown Arts District of Winston Salem. Admission is free.
