The Bo-Stevens Live in Studio A and getting Animated with Green Hill Center for NC Art

Today we kick things off with The Bo-Stevens, Live in Studio A! The Winston-Salem based old school country act has a new album out and they treat us to some cuts live, and share their insights on the craft with Technical Producer Eddie Garcia.  Then we get Animated! with not one, but TWO award-winning artists: NC State College of Design's Marc Russo, and UNC-Charlotte Digital Fabrication Lab's Ryan Buyssens. They're part of the Green Hill Center for NC Art's exiting new homage to the animated image, and they'll take us from the Four Horses of the Apocalypse to the magic of Zoopraxography, right here on Triad Arts Weekend!

The Bo-Stevens have been giving audiences a healthy dose of pure county music for just over a decade. Hot on the heels of their 4^th release “Your Crazy Heart,” the band, led by singer & rhythm guitarist Richard Boyd, recently stopped by WFDD for a Live in Studio A Session.  You can catch the Bo-Stevens live in concert, on Saturday September 7^th in downtown Winston-Salem at Summer on Trade. Just like today's broadcast the concert is free and open to the public.

In the meantime, Triad Arts technical producer Eddie Garcia sat down with the band to talk about their music, and to capture their energetic take on country music's roots, Live, in Studio A!

Animated! is an exhibition of works by contemporary North Carolina artists who are inspired by or incorporate the animated image. Animated's public opening is First Friday, September 6th from 6-9 at the Green Hill Center for NC Art in Greensboro

Our guest and Animated! feature artist is Marc Russo. Marc has looked to Biblical texts and masterworks from the history of art for inspiration.  Marc's “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” utilizes digital animation to extend the iconography of The Four Horsemen defined by Albrecht Durer in his famous 15^th century woodcut.  Marc's installation is made up of four screens in elaborate gold frames like traditional paintings. They're mounted on columns running four simultaneous videos entitled “Silence” “Decay” Consumption” and “Death”.  

Ryan Buyssens taught art and design classes in Detroit and San Francisco and has become a well-practiced kinetic artist. He currently manages the Digital Fabrication Lab in the UNC Charlotte School of Architecture. He's an active member in the D-Arts Center, and teaches a course about interactive and kinetic objects and environments as well.
