Many of the provisions of the 2013 Voting Act have been under fire recently. The Democrats are looking to change some of its provisions that they feel deny voting rights.
The Democratic leader in the North Carolina House says bills to make college student identification cards acceptable in voting and restore one week of early voting are to ensure all eligible citizens can vote.
Minority Leader Larry Hall held a news conference Tuesday to discuss his proposals to retool the 2013 elections overhaul law approved by Republicans. That law reduced early voting days from 17 to 10 and will require one of several ID forms to vote in person next year.
More people voted early during the 10-day period in 2014 compared to 17 days in 2010, but Hall says that ignores the long lines that caused others to give up.
Hall says the bills can win approval if the public speaks out for changes.
