A new program from Duke Energy will help more than 12-hundred lower income homes in Winston-Salem take steps to save energy and money.
Duke Energy District Manager, Jimmy Flythe, says residents of the Kimberly Park and Blum Park neighborhoods can get an energy makeover from Duke's Residential Neighborhood Program team members. "They'll seal up leaks using caulking and insulation; they have a door sweep to keep drafts out, and if there's a crack in the window, they have some specialized tape to use. They'll also install a low-flow shower head and aerators on your faucets."
Flythe says the team addresses these and 11 other energy-efficiency improvements, which can save households up to $80 a year. There's no out-of-pocket cost to customers in the Residential Neighborhood Program - these measures are paid for through the energy efficiency tariff all Duke Energy customers pay on their monthly electric bills. Flythe says the program is also being offered in Charlotte, Raleigh and upstate South Carolina. He says there are plans to come back to Winston-Salem at a later date and continue the program in two additional neighborhoods.
