Freeze Warning Issued For Wednesday Morning

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for the Triad area through Wednesday morning.

Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to about 30 degrees and may be below freezing for three to five hours. Nick Petro,  a weather service meteorologist in Raleigh,  says freezing temperatures this late in the year are unusual but not unprecedented.

Petro says temperatures will be more spring-like by the Easter weekend, with temperatures in the upper 60's to low 70's. But the cold weather will linger a few days before that.

The freeze warning is in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday. During that time the sub-freezing temperatures may kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
